Is less really more?

Where did you get your style? Not only in fashion, but decorating and other areas of your life? I have girlfriends at work that just absolutely freak out when I come to work without earrings on. I must admit, I love accessories as much as the next "girl" and if I had the money, I'd probably own a lot more pieces. I've always wanted one of those stand up jewelry boxes and once I got one as a gift, it was impossible to fill up and took up way too much space.

As for decorating, I'm sure everyone knows at least one person that is obsessed with filling up every corner of their home and has pictures on every wall. (Sorry if you're one of them) I am however, obsessed with butterflies but that's another post (lol)

Anyway, I say all of this to say that as I've grown older, less is truly more to me. In the past two years or so, I've done some cleansing and I've removed things around the house that are not useful and do not depict who I really am. As far as earrings, sometimes I wear them and sometimes I don't. Does that make me a fashion don't? Why can't my gorgeous smile and warm heart be enough?

Fashion is highly overrated. It's just frosting on the cake and sometimes there is a real pretty frosting on a hard and dry cake.

Don't get me wrong I like to dress up but I do it for me and as a reflection of what I like. I wear my favorite colors and styles and that is not always what is currently 'in'.

My house is a little more lean than it used to be. I picked some of the walls of their stuff and just have nice color instead. Our family room contains a little more cozy comfort with pictures and that sort of thing. Some of my other rooms seem full, but that is because I have a lot of plants. My kitchen is a little cluttered because I have some heirloom things I can't part with and like to leave them on display.

I look forward to passing alot of family items on to my boys when they get older and have homes of their own.

Someday I would like to live in a very smally cottage with very little to clean and of course it would have to be by a lake (my husband likes to be out on the water -I like to look at it).

PS I'm sure you look great with or with out the earrings!

Hey, in my studying for my message Sunday, I had to return and share this with you. 1 Peter 3:3-4 amplified version says: Let not yours be the [merely] external adorning with[elaborate]interweaving and knotting of the hair, the wearing of jewelry or changes of clothes; But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.

So, how appropriate was your post today and the response from the word of God? Very!!! See, I told you sweetheart, keep letting Him use you!

Love Ya,
Stacye

I love this post. I agree that less is more when it comes to my home. Trust me, I did not get the 'woman' gene at all when it comes to decoration. I do not know how to do any of that. I love my walls plain and my bathroom - you need to open the cabinet to get anything you want. There's no towels hanging or anything but I do enjoy people who know how to decorate and make their homes look beautiful. I want to be able to run around and not bump into things. Then again - I am bad at any kind of decoration.

Now - girl - with the earrings thing - I WILL not leave home without them or without make up. I don't wear a lot of makeup at all. Earrings and my watch are a must. Everything else I can do without.

Does that make you a 'fashion don't' - not at all as long as you are comfortable in your own skin - that's all that matters.

Good stuff.

I'll try to represent the fellas, but this may have to be a two parter.

As long as the house is clean, it's ok if it's cluttered. Personally, I like decorating when I can see the end from the beginning. I don't make it up as I go along.

I'm not much into jewelry and ear rings aren't my thing (being silly here), but for a woman the most beautiful thing they can where is a smile that's a reflection of a warm heart. I think the same thing probably works for a man.

Ms. Crochet, I'm w/you. I do it for me! As far as the kitchen, mine is filled w/family photos. I don't like cannisters and appliances all over the place.

Hey Stacye, I'm going to cut & paste your comment and put it in my book of inspirations. You know I'm in Numbers so I'll be posting a really great one in a couple of days.

Myriam, what's a watch? I thought people replaced those w/cell phones (lol)
I've got a few skills around the house. I was looking for my passion and took a Home Interior class. It was fun but not something I was passionate about.

Hey Big bro, I'm w/you; I don't earrings would go with your "perspective" and I'd rather see a great smile on a guy than a frown any day!

Love, peace and continued blessings to you all and call me crazy but I'm going to get a pair of earrings and keep them in the car for emergencies. Right next to my battery cables. (lol)

I decorate in "early garage sale" and "salvaged stuff". It's not fancy, but I'd say it's homey. I have a dog kennel with a board on top in the corner to hold a lamp...how fancy is that?

Like my favorite inspiration says "Its time for us to redefine who we be"---India Arie. It's what's underneath!!

Yeah, I do feel naked without earrings, but it makes me no difference if you don't. Honestly, the greatest lesson I've learned is to sweep around my own backyard and mind my own business.

DO YOU!!!
