My Antwone Fisher weekend.....

I don’t know how many of you saw the movie but I will never forget it. It was just the motivation I needed to find my birth dad. I saw the movie with my sisters and we got into a debate about how different your life (could be or would have been if you knew your birth parent(s). When you have a sentence with the word debate in it, is there ever any resolution?

The movie came on this past weekend and I always watch it like I’m seeing it for the very first time and I still cry at certain parts. (When he speaks with his Aunt for the first time and in the end at the family reunion). Call me psychic but I knew that upon his return to his Aunt’s house that she would have the entire family waiting to meet him. That is exactly what happened to me when I found my birth dad in 2003. I went to Ohio expecting to meet my brother and once I entered into the house, there was a banner hanging on the wall the said, “Welcome home Neicy and the house was filled with family and food. There was my step-sister, tons of cousins, nieces and nephews, my aunt and uncle and not to mention an enormous amount of cameras flashing. We took photographs like it was the opening night at the Oscars. It was as if we had known one another our entire lives. Everyone exchanged birthdays, addresses and e-mails. We stayed up until our eyelids couldn't take it anymore; it was like a slumber party. I think we all felt that if we were to go to sleep we would wake up wondering if the entire day was just a dream.

I was truly blessed to discover that after 38 years of not knowing my dad, he was living 340 miles away and ready to welcome me into his heart. I'm 44 and I'm a daddy's girl!
